Shavlik Technologies has announced today it has built a new security and IT management platform, called “IT.Shavlik.com,” that delivers these services from the cloud. This solution from Shavlik provides IT management as a service and represents a major shift in the way IT organizations approach the management of their systems, allowing them to focus on and maximize the level of service they deliver to the organization rather than continually struggling to just keep users secure, and systems up and running.
“With a patent pending, our IT.Shavlik.com represents a revolution in which companies can leverage the benefits of cloud computing, such as affordable licensing and ‘always available’ software, while at the same time simplifying the critical issues of today, such as security and asset cost control,” said Mark Shavlik, CEO of Shavlik Technologies. “In 2008 we formed a dedicated team of virtualization and web services experts to focus on delivering Shavlik’s IT automation capabilities via the cloud in a truly “IT On Demand” fashion, leveraging our premised based technology that today manages millions of computers. We now have a set of cloud based technologies that we will deliver both to customers as on demand systems management functions, and to partners as a platform with SDK’s on which they can build and deliver their own on demand systems management solutions. We are pleased to have been able to utilize our team and expertise to partner with VMware on their new VMware Go service that provides customers an immediate on-ramp to virtualization.”
“Time. IT departments never have enough of it and it’s the one thing they can’t buy,” said Dan Chu, vice president, emerging products and solutions, VMware. “Saving time is one of the key benefits of virtualization for IT. We are pleased to work with Shavlik Technologies to deliver joint solutions that allow businesses to virtualize faster and finish sooner. It actually puts time back into the IT schedule. Freeing up IT staff is critical to making room for projects that grow the business.”
Today there are hundreds of technologies that solve varied security and management problems, and new solutions are introduced daily to solve problems that have yet to be discovered. IT security and operations are drowning in this cycle of evaluating new products and vendors, performing the R&D to select the right product, purchasing this product, and integrating it with all of the other security technologies. Most companies remain insecure, not because they lack great technology but because they lack the time and money to deploy it.
The IT.Shavlik.com platform is the antidote to many of the IT headaches associated with the traditional on-premise software model. With no software or hardware to buy, install, maintain, or upgrade, cloud computing keeps growing in popularity with IT organizations that are being asked to do more with less in this difficult economic climate. Shavlik will soon be delivering SaaS based applications that plug into the IT.Shavlik.com platform for IT services such as patch management, configuration management, asset management and virtualization management. Shavlik will also be making this technology available to partners to build their own cloud offerings and also to its larger customers for their private cloud implementations. IT.Shavlik.com will be made available as a beta offering some time in the fourth quarter of 2009.
